Huawei Kirin PC tipped to follow Apple M-series chip architecture
News regarding the Huawei Kirin PC suggests that the upcoming laptop chip could follow Apple’s footsteps in CPU architecture. The company may use a unified method to seed better efficiency and more benefits into its first computer-dedicated chipset.
Kirin PC has been in rumors for a long time. The processor is expected to debut later this year, starting with the commercial Qingyun series. While the exact timeline for the new chip launch is unclear, a new leak has now detailed its internal parameters.
According to Weibo tipster @FixedFocus, Huawei Kirin PC will adopt the same CPU architecture as the Apple M-series and Intel Lunar Lake chip (the latest edition).
This architecture is quite significant in the processor world. It integrates all the main components like DRAMs and SoCs into a single package. As a result, the overall memory bandwidth gets doubled compared to the traditional computer chipsets.
For reference, the previous-gen PC chips use several components stuffed at different areas on a motherboard. With such a structure, the CPU takes much time to transmit data from one location to another which also results in extreme power consumption.
But that’s not the case with the new architecture. The single packaging, also known as Unified Memory Architecture (UMA) supports all core elements in one section. This ultimately brings DRAMs, CPU, and GPU close to each other for better linkage.
Hence, the architecture increases the fluidity of memory allocation as well as performance efficiency. All components of the chip can access the same memory in the same place. Thus, it can adapt to heavy data and other commands in no time.
The new architecture for Kirin PC chip will form a stronger unison between the chip’s core elements over the current chips used in Windows or other computers.
Further inputs reveal that the Huawei Kirin PC chip is mainly planned for AI-based devices. Perhaps the upcoming notebooks will feature dynamic performance and smarter capabilities over the previous generation MateBook models.
Previous Revelations:
The same tipster earlier reported that the Kirin PC processor could use Taishan V130 architecture to match Apple M3 performance. It seems the Chinese phone maker is ready to challenge Apple Mac products with its first computer chip.
Rumored parameters of the Kirin PC chip currently count:
- 4 x Taishan large cores, 4 x Taishan mid-cores, 2 x large cores of NPU (Ascend Lite), and 2 x micro cores of NPU (Ascend Mini).
- Maleoon 920 GPU
- 10-channel emission
- 32GB RAM
- 2TB internal storage
Huawei hasn’t confirmed any of these alleged inputs for its Kirin PC so far. Yet the company will likely use effective and advanced techs for its first laptop processor.
