In-folding phone with cover display and stylus design patent by Huawei

In May last year, Huawei filed a new foldable phone patent at CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration). The patent was approved and published on August 14, 2020. (Found by LetsGoDigital)

The patented design shows a foldable smartphone with an in-ward folding system. The phone comes with a hand-grip/rest sidebar including dual selfie cameras, the main display, and a small display placed as a strip on the sidebar.

The sub-display seems to work as a quick selection menu for simplicity and remains active even after the phone is folded. Notably, the phone supports the stylus pen that comes inside the sidebar, accessible via the bottom side.

Aside from front, the phone also has quad rear cameras placed vertically on the top right corner. Meanwhile, there are no physical keys showed in the renders.

Since it’s a design patent, there’s no additional information available about its specs or status of real production.

A previous report suggests that Huawei Mate X2 is currently under development and will come with the same 8-inch display size as the Mate X and Xs. However, the Mate X2 will feature in-fold design instead of out-fold in its predecessors.

There’s more information on the Huawei Mate X2 yet to come but we’ll keep you posted on this matter.
