WhatsApp eases transfer of chat history via new QR code feature

WhatsApp is bringing a significant feature that will simplify the transfer of chat history from an old phone to a new one. The useful capability is in the testing phase and started approaching a few Android beta testers via Google Play Beta Program.

According to the WhatsApp Android beta 2.24.13.6 version, the company is readying a new QR Code feature that will make it easier to transfer the chat history from an old device. This will also eliminate constant manual backups on Drive or Cloud.

Inputs show that WhatsApp will soon get a new section on the Chat page which will allow data transmission from an old phone. Opening the new feature will read:

“Allow access and use the camera on your old phone to scan a QR code on your new phone.”

While the precise details of this feature are missing due to the beta phase, it seems that scanning the QR code will immediately initiate the transfer of your chats to the new phone. This may also help to do the same thing across different devices.
